"Ongoing Accommodations" is an open ended series of work which make use of symbolic imagery and fragmented settings representing a purgatory of reflection. Apprehensions and skepticisms portrayed within are countered with the use of a brightly colored cartoonish style establishing a lighthearted feel upon first glance. Further examination of the dim subject matter alludes to an underlying sense of indifference.

These works were created with the screen-filler reduction method, also known as "hand reduction" or "single screen method". For those familiar with reductive wood cuts, it is similar in that instead of carving away wood from a block between each color layer you are adding screen filler to the screen. Images generally start as an open background flat or silhouette stencil exposed on a screen. After pin registration is set up, the first color layer is printed throughout the entire edition. Ink is cleaned off the screen with a sponge while it is still clamped in. Once dry, the areas which will remain the previously printed color (on paper) are blocked out (on screen) by the application of filler with a paint brush. The open area of the stencil is further reduced (filled in) after each color is printed. When done correctly all layers stack up and appear seamless because the registration is locked in throughout the reduction. This method maintains a “hand painted” quality and allows you to work with minimal exposures, emulsion coats, or use of digital equipment.

Snacks on… is a series of works that explores the unassuming nature of delectable treats. I am interested in the ties that snack foods have with design, packaging, printing, and commercial production. Not only that, I am poking fun at the fact that even as an adult I eat like a twelve year old. As with a bag of chips on a store shelf, these works are meant to be eye catching and play upon a childish nostalgia to trigger the craving.

This body of work explores the use of sign making materials and processes with fine art applications. Printmaking, especially screen printing, has a history tethered to commercial practices and the dissemination of imagery and information through duplication, advertisement, branding, and merchandising. These images are handled and rendered in a way similar to the vectorized spot color transparencies commonly found for screen printing exposures. A vinyl cutter is used to create the images as decals that are transferred to a coroplast substrate. The particulars involved with registering and building up color layers is similar to printmaking as well. The “shark sign” series references the degradation of the environment as a result of blatant disregard resulting from capitalism as well as passive consumerism with shark finning as a primary example. I imagine that these sharks are displaced and have an option only to elude this deplorable act by inhabiting stagnant retention ponds littered with plastics and wastewater. Other images touch on the ridiculous nature of “American” fast foods. Others are just for fun.
